Food Safety Courses: Staying Sanitary

Cooking food is a fairly involved process during which many things will come into contact with the food that is being prepared and as such there are many safety issues regarding sanitation that any person is going to need to keep in mind, many of which a person will be made aware of extensively and practice throughout their inclusion in any kind of food safety course, like ServSafe.

One of the most important spaces on which a person needs to be sure to adhere to sanitary regulations is while using a cutting board. A person can many times get a wood cutting board or a plastic cutting board, and there are many people who are looking to get a cutting board that wonder which one would be the safest in terms of being able to keep the food that comes into contact with the cutting board as sanitary as possible. Plastic cutting boards are the better option to go if a person is trying to keep their food as sanitary as possible because the plastic surface is easier to clean and make sure that it is properly and fully sanitary than is a wood cutting board which can easily keep germs within it even after a wash.

Another big component of keeping any kind of food as sanitary as it should be is the temperature under which that food is stored. This should make sense to any person, but a food that is supposed to be kept at a colder temperature should always be in the refrigerator and a food that is supposed to stay at a warm temperature should be kept at those conditions. If a food has been kept at the wrong temperature there will normally be pretty noticeable signs that any person should be able to pick up on to signal to them not to eat them. Typically the food will be discolored and will also not smell that good either. So a person should definitely be aware of this because eating rancid food can cause some serious health complications for a person.

A person should be sure to always wash their hands before and after handling food as bacteria can easily move from one surface to another. This is especially important for a person who is handling raw meat, as that can hold a lot of bacteria. Any surface whether it is a cutting board or someones hand should be sanitized immediately after touching raw meat so that it does not touch anything else and lead to potentially harmful food situations.
